The Meaning Behind What’s Up Wednesday

The name What’s Up Wednesday was chosen with intention.

At Common Good Atlanta, “up” is not casual language. It is mission language.

This work is about lifting up possibility where systems have too often narrowed it. Lifting up dignity where it has too often been denied. Lifting up access, voice, education, restoration, and belonging. Lifting up the truth that no person should be permanently defined by one or the hardest chapters of their life.

And as we lift up our students, we must also lift up the way we serve this mission.

That means lifting up communication.

Lifting up transparency.

Lifting up trust.

Lifting up alignment.

Lifting up stewardship.

Lifting up the shared responsibility we each carry for the future of this work.

Why Wednesdays?

Wednesday is the midpoint. It sits between what has already happened and what is still ahead. It gives us a moment, in the middle of the work, to pause with discipline and purpose: to look back with honesty, look around with clarity, look ahead with shared purpose, and look up with renewed conviction about the mission we are privileged to carry.

That is the spirit of What’s Up Wednesday.

It is more than a weekly update. It is a rhythm of alignment and accountability. A place to name what is moving, what is emerging, what needs attention, and what we are continuing to build together.

In this next chapter of CGA, we are not simply staying informed.

We are lifting up the work.

We are lifting up our students.

We are lifting up service.

We are lifting up one another.

And together, we are lifting CGA up toward the fullness of the promise it was built to keep: the promise of education, dignity, restoration, access, belonging, and the institutional responsibility to steward this mission well.
